1960s Marquessa Red Lizard Leather Top Handle Bag

Made in England in the 1960s, this top-handle bag is crafted from rich red lizard leather and cut to a softly structured trapeze shape with gently rounded corners. The bag has a panelled construction with twin top handles and gold-tone metal hardware. It closes at the top with a substantial gold-tone clasp further trimmed in matching red leather. The base is neatly folded to create additional depth and a surprisingly roomy interior. Inside, the bag is lined in clean beige suede and fitted with two slip pockets and a separate zipped compartment. The maker’s label is retained internally. In very good vintage condition overall. There is some light wear to the gold-tone metal hardware, consistent with age. Certain areas of the red lizard leather appear slightly darker in tone and we would view as a natural variation in the skin and ageing of the leather rather than staining.
