1960s Ciner Single Strand Pearl Necklace with Diamante Clasp

This elegant 1960s faux pearl necklace was made by Ciner, one of America’s longest-established and most highly regarded costume jewellery houses. Founded in New York by Emanuel Ciner in 1892, the company initially produced fine jewellery before turning to luxury costume jewellery around 1930, applying many of the same techniques and standards of manufacture. The necklace is formed from a single strand of substantial faux glass pearls, individually threaded onto knotted cord. Their generous size gives the necklace a particularly rich appearance, while the elaborate clasp is designed almost as a piece of jewellery in its own right. Crafted from silver-tone metal, the domed half-sphere clasp is densely set with sparkling diamantes and fastens with a concealed box mechanism. It is signed “CINER” with the registered trademark symbol. Ciner filed its principal jewellery trademark in 1949, helping to place the necklace within the company’s post-war production. In very good to excellent vintage condition. There are a few very small flecks to the surface of some of the pearls, visible only on close inspection, but these do not detract when worn.
